I am Cathrine Bolseth, mother of three children, doula, yoga therapist, and the founder of Birthspace, a space and community for women. I am passionate about supporting mothers through the life-changing season of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and I believe this support is given through mental and physical nourishment, as well as holding space for mothers through this truly transitioning chapter of their lives.

In the fall of 2022 I was working in a global market-leading big corporation and pregnant with my third child. I had up until that point had a uncomplicated pregnancy but then one day as I arrived at the office I felt extreme dizziness to the point I had to hold on to the walls. Fatigue, insomnia and spots on the vision showed itself in the weeks that followed, and for a routine pregnancy control with my GP I asked her if I might have iron-deficiency? She run the tests and pointed out that my iron levels where actually above target level. But.. how is work she asked? I had heavy symptoms of stress, and didn’t realise it. And now it could be affecting the baby in my belly. I was embarrassed that it had came this far and that moment changed everything.

I knew instinctively that I had to do the rest of my pregnancy and the coming postpartum different this time around. In my two previous births, I was out and about after no-time, catering for others, hosting visitors and being the “cool and capable” mum. After reading up on the first 40 days postpartum, it hit a sore spot; I had neglected my own needs for so long, feeling that I had to be so strong and resilient. My baby was born safe and sound, in the most wonderful water birth at the city hospital, and I managed to let others tend for me the first few weeks, in a way I had never ever done before.

Our third little girl had colic- like her big sister, and she was screaming almost every waking moment. We tried everything to help her and learned a lot on the way. As my maternity leave went by and she got better, I used the long walks with the stroller to educate myself in the nervous system and generational trauma through several courses and books, and I started mediating and doing breathwork on a daily basis. When my leave ended I began my postpartum doula training with Carriage House Birth in NYC, something that felt like a real natural next step for me. After three births I had become a huge birth and postpartum nerd and I was hungry to learn more. With the education my passion only grew, and I dived into the field of neuroscience and ancient practices of Ayurveda for mothers.  I knew I had to share this knowledge with the world and today I work as a prenatal & postpartum doula and yoga therapist, holding space and creating community for mothers in Copenhagen, Denmark.
